What is Osteoporosis?Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes your bones to become brittle and weak, which in turn makes your body prone to fracturing. This condition occurs when the body undergoes bone loss or makes too little bone.

Who is at risk?

Osteoporosis can affect anyone! Both men and women of any age can be diagnosed. However, caucasian and Asian women over 50 are the most susceptible.

Signs and Symptoms

You won’t be able to actually feel your bones breaking down, but you may notice some other symptoms including:

  • Back pain
  • Stooped posture
  • Loss of height
  • Increased fractures

Treatment Options

You can help prevent bone loss and help rebuild your bone mass in several ways. Some of the most well-known treatment methods are a balanced diet, medications, and exercise. Exercise can help increase bone density by utilizing weight-bearing and resistive exercises. A physical therapist will help you find safe exercises that will increase your bone density and prevent your condition from worsening. See a physical therapist to help develop an exercise program specifically just for you!
