As we get closer and closer to Christmas, there are several injuries that become more common. I wanted to draw your attention to these injuries in hopes that we will all have a happy and healthy holiday season!

Electrical Shocks

Many people can experience electrical shocks when taking out and hanging up their christmas lights. As you are setting up your lights this year, please be sure to follow all safety instructions and to look for any breaks in your wires!

Decoration-Related Injuries

According to a study completed by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 70% of all Christmas injuries are related to either taking up or tearing down decorations.

Most of these injuries were falls, either from a ladder or something unsteady (such as a stool). This holiday season, please make sure you are standing on something sturdy and have someone nearby in case you lose your balance!

Cuts or Lacerations

On Christmas day, most of the injuries are related to unwrapping presents. The CPSC reports that people are most commonly seen for lacerations from using either knives or scissors when unwrapping presents. When you are opening presents this year, please practice good knife safety!

The holiday season is one filled with cheer, so please stay safe and take caution!
