Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries with people of all ages. You don’t have to be an athlete to get an ankle sprain! They can occur when walking on a sidewalk, stepping off a curb, walking on uneven pavement, or even moving around in your own home. An ankle sprain is when your foot turns inward or outward and the ligaments get over stretched. This causes pain and swelling in the foot and ankle. Once you get one ankle sprain you are more likely to get another one.

If you do get an ankle sprain there are few things you can do to help the healing process.

  1. Ice and Elevate the lower leg
  2. Perform ankle pumps
  3. Stretch the calf muscle
  4. Consult your Physical Therapist or your Doctor

****Depending on how painful and severe the ankle sprain is, you may need to visit your MD. Your doctor may refer you to Physical Therapy.
